PPET -- Paraprofessional Preparation for Extraordinary Teaching
Through a grant offered by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the Darden College of Education of Old Dominion University is seeking applicants who are interested is obtaining an initial license in special education in the areas of ED, LD, or MR. The applicant must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and meet the eligibility criteria listed in the Eligibility link below in order to be admitted as a grant participant. Please read the eligibility criteria and follow instructions accordingly:

    1. Be employed and assigned as a paraprofessional, substitute teacher, or other non-licensed personnel in a public school divsion in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
    2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university;
    3. be recommended by the employing school division;
    4. be assigned a mentor by the employing school division; and
    5. be seeking initial licensure in special education with endorsement in ED, LD, and/or MR.

FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR SUMMER 2006, and FALL 2006. Begginning Summer 2006 passing scores for Praxis I or equivalent SAT or ACT scores are not required.

DEADLINE for Summer 2006 admission into the PPET Grant Program is the 1st week of April 2006

for Fall 2006 admission into the PPET Grant Program is the 3rd week in July 2006.

Complete application packets will be accepted until all spaces are filled. Application packages will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applicants admitted into the PPET program are responsible for paying tuition of $100 per course (3 credit each) plus the administrative fees per semester. For more specific information, please contact Arminda Israel at 757-683-3348 or email: aisrael@odu.edu.
