2005 East Coast Competition - Day Three

We managed to revive Diatom for the endurance race. We just hoped that the front wheel wouldn't get any worse. In our early morning practice runs Brianne realized that the nose cone vision problem was not going to allow her to see the turns and the vehicles in front of her. We did some hasty modifications and improved her vision. Foam was added to the seat and the nose cone was lowered.
This is a look down the pits. Everyone is busy preparing their vehicles for the race.
Here is another pit area shot.
The endurance race started with all of the female riders. Here is Brianne preparing for her portion of the race. The rest of the team is standing by with advice and support.
This is a shot of the starting line and several of the teams. The vehicles were lined up according to their average sprint time.
The Clarkson team seemed to be having the most fun. As soon as the start horn sounded they all took off their shirts to reveal sexy pink tank tops which they used to build team spirit and cheer on their female rider.
This is Kendrick in the lower turn. This was the fastest turn in the course and quite a few teams wiped out here.
This is Andrew coming through the 'S' turn during the last laps of the race.
Even the number one team falls. This is the UMR team after their wreck in the lower corner. They had a well built bike and it easily recovered from the fall. It also didn't hurt that they were nine laps ahead of the second place team.
The endurance race ended with us in sixth place. We juggled positions from eleventh all the way up to third. The BMX rider from University of Buffalo put on the final show at the end of the race by trashing his vehicle. Everyone got a kick out of it.
