IA Tutorial

This is a brief tutorial on how
to use Virtual IA. You can read background information
on the Virtual IA project here.
Before You Use Virtual
IA at the Beginning of the Semester
Virtual IA must be configured once per semester for each instructor. Before
you use Virtual IA,, you should contact Heather Jones (683-6493, hmbrown@odu.edu)
to have Virtual IA configured for your class sessions. Once configured, Virtual
IA will operate as described below during the semester.
Starting Virtual IA
The Virtual IA software is installed on a stand alone computer
system in your TELETECHNET classroom. If you notice that the computer system
is not turned on, do so by pressing the Power button. Virtual IA will load
automatically.
How it Works
Video Streaming students are able to ask you questions by typing questions
into the "Question" form located on
the Video Streaming Launch Page for your course. Once the question has been
submitted, it will appear on the computer screen in
Virtual IA along with the student's name and the date/time the question was
submitted. If a student submits questions when class is not
in session, his/her questions will appear
in
Virtual IA
during
your
next
class
period.
Responding to Questions
You respond to questions verbally.
This allows all students in the classroom and
as well as those viewing the class via video
streaming to hear your response. You do not type
in responses to student questions.
Navigating the Questions
If there are more questions than can be displayed at one time on the computer
screen, a message at the bottom of the screen
indicates how many questions are remaining to be displayed. When this happens,
you can navigate to the unseen questions by
pressing the Next Question/Menu Item button
on the Virtual IA Controller. Pressing the Previous
Question/Menu Item button on the controller will navigate to previously
viewed questions.
Printing the Questions
Printing questions has changed
from prior versions of Virtual IA. You must now
login to your Video
Streaming "launch page" and select
the "Click here to view previously submitted
questions" link. You will then be able to
use the print functionality within your web browser
to print the question list.
Clearing the Questions
You can clear the questions at any time during your class session. Select the
Menu/Enter button
on the controller to access the menu. Navigate to the Clear Questions menu
option using the controller. Press the Menu/Enter button to clear the questions.
You will be prompted to confirm your selection.
If you intend to clear the questions at this point, navigate to the "Yes.
I want to clear the questions." menu option and press the Menu/Enter button
on the controller. The questions will be permanently erased. It is recommended
that you print a copy of the questions before erasing the
questions.
If you have additional questions
regarding Virtual IA, please contact Heather
Jones (683-6493, hmbrown@odu.edu)
for more details.
