BUSINESS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY-Part II

Subject:  8130 Advanced Marketing
Time required:  1 day
PRerequisite Skills:  Completion of chapter 2 - with passing test score of at least 84% on the material.

Set:  Consider the value of education in our society.  Most jobs require more skills than in the past.  Should the minimum amount of education be raised to 18 years or a high school diploma?

Rationale:  Less than 1 American household in 11 has kept the same address since 1960.  Women have increased their participation in the work force.  A female's pay increases 7 cents per hour while a male's pay increases 24 cents per hour for each year of work experience.  These are just several ways in which business can be socially responsible.  Predict how changes in society and business will affect employment in the future.

Objectives:  Describe the changing nature of the population, the labor force, and their impact on businesses.  Discuss how values have changed and how business has adapted to those changes.  Consider the need for business to grow and the need to protect the natural environment.  Suggest way in which business can be socially responsible.  Predict how changes in society and business will affect employment in the future.

Modeling:  Businesses are modifying the work setting and upgrading the important role employees play in developing successful firms.

Guided Practice:  Have students read "Ethical Issues" on page 45 and write a 5 paragraph response to the 4 questions listed.

Assessment:  Pop quiz - 10 questions they can use their class notes to answer.
