Understanding the History and Diverse Natural of Electronic Commerce.
Describe the development of the Internet.
English Standards of Learning:
10.10  The student will collect, evaluate, and organize information.
11.2  The student will analyze and evaluate persuasive presentations.
12.1 The student will make a 5-10 minute formal oral presentation.

Objective: 
TLW explore and describe the development of the Internet.

Materials:
 Computers with Internet access.
 PowerPoint (TV/computer monitor lookup) not essential

Rationale: Point out to students that in just 10 years, the Internet has grown at an 
unprecedented rate.  Millions of people use the Internet every day, but only a small percentage of them really understand how it works.

Set:  Ask the students who invented the Internet.  (Put responses on the board, someone might say former vice-president Gore).

Graphical User Interface (GUI) and the WWW

Guided:
Visit web sites and point out to students how the GUI allowed retailers to show pictures, icons and other graphical elements of their products to customers all over the world, and the Web provided consumers with an easy way to navigate from Web site to Web site by way of hyperlinks.

Independent:
Students are to research the history of the Internet. 
Students are to create an Internet timeline. 
Students will include in the timeline items they feel are important.  After the timeline is created, students will then explain why they chose the key points for their timelines.

Oral:  Student will present a five-minute presentation.  Students are encouraged to be 
creative, poster boards, PowerPoint presentations, etc.

Assessment:  Timeline and presentations

Homework: Complete presentation part of assignment.

Closure:  Key points and terms discussed will be reviewed.  Go over with students next day’s lesson.

Remind students when the bell rings, the bell will let you know, but I will let you go!
