Purpose:
Compare and contrast various types of stores according to their merchandising
policies (including major brands carried, price points, and services
provided).
Instructions:
1. Select a partner for this assignment.
2. Use the Search Engine, GOOGLE,
to complete this part of the assignment.
3. Identify types of fashion/retail stores as follows:
a. Five small-store retail firms
b. Five large-store retail firms
c. At least two of the firms must be local businesses.
d. At least three of the firms must be nationally known fashion
stores.
4. Print out a picture of the interior and exterior of the store to
be used as part of a presentation. Show example of how sales floor
is merchandised.
5. Identify each company’s policies regarding:
a. Target market
b. Merchandise assortments
c. Major brands carried
d. Price ranges (budget, moderate, upscale, couture)
e. Service policies
6. Evaluate each store’s operations, and rate each store on
a scale of 1 – 5 (1 is poor; 5 is exceptional). Explain why
you gave the ratings.
7. Use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel to create a report or
chart to compare each of the 10 stores and their policies.
8. The report must be visual and must include documentation (written
report or display boards) in addition to an oral presentation.
