5 LAWS OF TIME MANAGEMENT

STANDARDS OF LEARNING:
SOLS 11.4, 12.4 – The student will read a variety of printed material.
SOL 10.1 – The student will participate in and report in small group learning activities.

OBJECTIVE(S):
The student will be able to (100% or better):
Students will analyze the “5 Laws of Time Management,” according to Hyrum Smith’s “The 10 Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management.


ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S):
Do you utilize your time efficiently?
If you had more time in your schedule, what would you use that time to do?


WARM-UP ACTIVITY:
Students will answer the following questions on a sheet of paper and turn in:
What do you think are some of the “laws” of time management?


POWERFUL LITERACY ADDRESSED:
Students will read for entertainment and purpose.


MATERIALS:

PROCEDURE/ACTIVITIES:

1. Warm-up activity with students to introduce lesson
2. Class lecture, entitled “5 Laws of Time Management,” will follow, including:

a. Law 1 – You control your life by controlling your time
b. Law 2 – Your governing values are the foundation of personal success and fulfillment
c. Law 3 – When your daily activities reflect your governing values, you experience inner peace
d. Law 4 – To reach any significant goal, you must leave your comfort zone
e. Law 5 – Consistent daily planning leverages time and increases focus

3. Students will receive “Degrees of Control” and “Time Robbers” handouts
4. If time permits, move onto lecture regarding “Plugging Time Leaks”


STUDENT ASSIGNMENT:

1. Warm-up activity with students to introduce Time Management unit
2. Participate in class lecture and discussion regarding time management laws
3. Receive hand outs “Degrees of Control” and “Time Robbers”
4. Individually complete both hand outs in class and turn in for grade
5. If time permits, move onto class discussion regarding “Plugging Time Leaks”
