Title:  DESIGNING A BUSINESS WEB SITE

Overview:  Students visit sites that show examples of effective Web design and offer advice about what makes an effective Web site.  They’ll read about companies that provide Web design services and consulting, as well as finding information on technologies and software they can use themselves to design a site.  Students will design a mock or real Website using HTML, PowerPoint or HyperStudio.

Objectives:
*Research information about good Web design and professional design services.
*Read about software and technologies used in designing a Web page, such as HTML and active server pages.
*Learn how different Web browsers affect how a visitor views a Web site.

Directions:  Ask students to discuss the different elements of a Web store, such as a product information page, shopping cart, search engine, and customer support area.  Talk about what function each of these elements serves for an online business.  Ask students to describe Web sites they’ve visited that they thought were well designed and explain why.  Now have students do online research about Web design and create a real or mock Web site for a business of their choice, including a home page with content about the company, and at least three other pages with place holders for content.
