SPORTS
ENTERTAINMENT AND RECREATION MARKETING WEBQUEST
Project Objective:
You and three of your buddies
are planning for beach week after graduation. You are not satisfied
with Ocean City, Virginia Beach or Myrtle Beach, you want something
different, something that you will remember the rest of your life. Your
buddies know that you are whiz on the Internet and have tasked you to
plan a trip to remember. The objective of the webquest is for you to
familiarize yourself with the ways that your can purchase travel and
recreation on the Internet. You will be visiting websites that are connected
to the travel industry. Until several years ago this information was
only available to Travel Agents that you had to go to their location
or phone them to plan a vacation or business travel. The Travel Agency
is a dying industry and the Internet is one of the main reasons. Your
purpose will be to first familiarize yourself with the number and types
of websites that are available on the World Wide Web and what services
they provide for their users or customers. The second purpose is to
make your buddies happy with your choices. You must also track the advertising
that appears when you visit a website; this should be on a separate
sheet of paper.
Tasks:
How do I fly there?
Since you may be flying
to your location, your first task is to visit several sites to get flight
information and pricing. You have three objectives or quests in this
section. You must visit one travel site, one legacy airline site and
one low-cost airline site and price the following. A flight from the
Washington DC Area to Los Angles, one flight leaving tomorrow and returning
a week later and one flight leaving in 60 days and also staying for
a week. What are the differences in the prices? Did you check to see
if there were differences in leaving from any of the three airports
in the Washington DC area. Was there a difference between the Travel
websites and the airline sites? Do you see the need for planning early
for this trip? Is there another way to get to Los Angles without taking
the plane? See if you can find one example and its cost. Please make
sure that you are recording the advertising that pops up on the websites.
Repeat this exercise and replace Los Angles with London England.
Beach Week here we come!
You and your friends have
each saved $1000 for this trip. Each of them is counting on you to give
them something that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
As a group you have decided to see which is better a trip to an exotic
beach or to Europe to see the sights. You must price out the cost to
include the flight, rooms and admissions to the sights. By the way,
one small problem even though you could go to Expedia.com, Travelocity.com
or Obitz.com to plan the whole thing for you, your friends want you
to price each part of the trip separately, in case they would like to
change parts of the vacation. So first get a price on a Full Service
Travel Website and then price out the parts of the vacation separately.
Again make sure you are recording the advertising as your visit the
sites.
Suggested Travel
Industry Websites:
There are thousands of sites that help with the planing of your trip;
these are just a few suggestions. Make sure that you cite your source
