Exploring Electronic Job Banks
- In teams of two, have your students evaluate various electronic job
banks, describing the strengths, weaknesses, and unique features of
each one. You might want to provide them with a list of things
they should learn during their evaluation, such as,
- "What are the rules and guidelines
for posting a resume? (careful, each one is different!)"
- "What are the privacy issues associated
with your job bank?"
- "Can you edit your resume once it's
been posted?"
- "How long will your resume remain
posted?"
- "How does one search the job listings?"
- "Are the jobs predominantly for college
graduates and executives, or are there plenty of non college related
jobs, too?"
I always placed my most conscientious student
on the Virginia View
site. This is a tremendous source for your students, but
you'll need someone to present it that you know will do a good job with
it. I let the team assigned to this one know that I was counting
on them, maybe with a little perk for a job well done?
