Career Manual:  Where Do I Begin?
 

Objectives:
Students will use a variety of library materials, print and electronic to research different career fields in the fashion industry.  Students will be guided by the media specialists in the steps of the research process, to gain a better understanding of how to use the LMC to locate information.

Materials:
LMS created worksheet and Sources Checklist, Reference books, Notification books, OPAC, World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia, appropriate Internet sites

Procedures:
The LMS creates transparencies and a worksheet to introduce the “Using the LMC” procedures.  Model finding information in the LMC: Where to begin, how to use the resources, using OPAC, its keyword searching and printing features, going to a shelf to locate information, recording information for a bibliography.  Divide the class into two groups.  One group uses the print materials as the other group uses the computer resources.  Switch groups.

Evaluation:
Students’ written responses on the worksheet.  The LMS and the teacher observe students locating information in print sources, on the CD-ROM, and on the Internet.  The LMS and teacher evaluate the class performance in the library during a post library visit conference.
