MALL CREATION PROJECT

TYPE OF MALL:

When creating a mall, one of the first things to think about is the type of mall you would like to develop.

A TOTALLY ENCLOSED MALL - one in which all of the businesses are enclosed under one roof. Customers must enter the mall through specific entrances or the anchor stores to reach the other store

A COMBINATION MALL - Partially enclosed (usually in the back section) with a roadside strip mall appearance in the front.

SELECTING A COMMUNITY

Use the text MARKETING ESSENTIALS, Chapter 39, "Describing and Analyzing a Proposed Business" to assist you in answering the following questions about your mall:

 4. What type of businesses will you have in your mall? Be specific. SUGGESTIONS: Two anchor stores (a regional chain and a national chain), women's apparel and accessory stores, men's apparel and accessory stores, men's and women's apparel stores, furniture stores, shoes stores, gifts and jewelry stores, food court and two nice fill service restaurants, drugs and variety stores, hardware stores, specialty shops (several), movie theaters, amusements, and many more types of stores.

 8. Define market segment analysis?
 9. Define target market
10. What is your mall’s target market?
11. Define demographics.
12. Define psychographics
13. Define buying power.

YOUR TRADING AREA

You may need to use information gathered from Internet sources before answering the following questions.  Each group will access city/county information using websites provided by the instructor.  You are limited to the United States of America in determining your location.

Print out all statistical information.  Also, provide an area map for your location.  Any of the map websites may be used.

ANALYZING THE COMPETITION

26. What is the quality of merchandise?
27. Do they do anything special for the customers?

INDIVIDUAL STORE SPECIFICATIONS

Select one type of store that you would like to open in the mall. This is your personal business.

Name the business and what type of store is it?

Develop a creative sign for the exterior of your store.

Describe the merchandise you will carry and/or the services your businesses will provide.

Find 5 examples of merchandise you will carry in the store.

 What will be the price range strategy for merchandise in this store?

 Draw the floor plan of this store including fixtures, aisles, displays, fitting rooms, sales counter, stockroom, office, etc. Make sure you label where certain types of merchandise will be in your floor plan.

 Create a print advertisement for this specific store for use in the newspaper. (Headline sub-headline, copy, logo and illustration).
