Hello Western Area!

I hope that everyone has had another wonderful and exciting week in DECA! I know that those of you who will be attending the International Career Development Conference are getting very excited! It is going to be a fun and enticing week inside of the DECA organization. I hope that those of you who will be competing or attending in Orlando are preparing yourself for one amazing week. I know that it is going to be a great week, and I look forward to seeing each and every one of you in Orlando!

Now, I will get to the point of this e-mail. As you all know, there was a terrible act that happened last week on the Virginia Tech campus. This is the worst massacre that has happened in U.S. history. I know that many of you have already mourned and grieved over this senseless act and I am right there with you. In the event of the tragic act, I would like each of you to please remember the students who lost their lives.

If there is any spare time that you have in your day, please take a moment to remember or even pray for the lives that were taken, but also the families of the victims. I know that this is an extremely hard time for the Virginia Tech community and the families of the victims, and we need to let them know that we are there for them. So if there is a time where you aren't doing anything, please take a moment to remember. Please keep the victims, families, and the Virginia Tech community in your thoughts and prayers. If there is anything that any of you would like to talk with me about, please feel free to contact me. I am always open."

Hello Western Area!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and a happy New Year. I also hope that everyone is alive and moving with their DECA responsibilities since getting back from winter break. I just wanted to send out a quick reminder to all of the SENIORS in the Western Area. All seniors have about one month and six days left for their applications to be turned in for DECA scholarships. I would certainly hope that many of you seniors would take part in this. Advisors, please remind your seniors about this topic. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or the Southern Region Vice President Jeff Ewing.

I would also like to congratulate everyone who won at their District Leadership Conference. Advisors, a special congratulations go to you, too. You were the ones who prepared these students for their competition and who helped them succeed. GO ADVISO
RS! So I hope that all of you winners are preparing for the State Leadership Conference in Norfolk this March.

Keep it up Western Area! You guys are amazing!"

And from Leah Knapp...

You now have one month and seven days to submit your DECA scholarship applications! Here are some last minute tips to help you with that! Remember that Scholarships are available to all DECA members registered at the National level (US, Canada, Germany, etc.)
1. Application completed in full and done neatly (not using 2 different color ink pens, sloppy handwriting, better if typed or recreated) (***Note that VIRGINIA scholarship applications MUST BE TYPED or they will not be accepted.)
2. Making sure all documents are included in correct order
3. Bulleting a list of items and not write in paragraphs unless instructions indicate to do so.
4. Mail by postmarked deadline date
5. Make sure application is signed by all parties (applicant, advisor, school administrator, state advisor)
6. Not apply for scholarships that you're not eligible

So get those applications in and get money for school!"
