Recently, Virginia High School
sponsored “Money Wars to Feed the Poor.” They set up a competition
among first period classes to see who could raise the most money for
charity. Students were asked to “dig into their pockets, sofas
and cars” and bring in all their spare change. Each morning, DECA
students went around promoting the project and collecting money from
the classes. Posters were placed around the school and announcements
were made each morning and afternoon to promote the project as well.
The first period class that raised the most money was treated to breakfast,
compliments of McDonalds. Their DECA officers expected to raise about
$100 or so during the two week campaign. In total they collected $836
in change from all the classes at Virginia High School. DECA kicked
in the difference to make a donation of $850. The money was donated
to the Haven of Rest Mission Rescue in Bristol, a facility which provides
food and shelter for the homeless in our area. Keep up the good work,
Virginia High School!
