a great way to get your feet wet in an industry to see if it truly is what
you want to do.

Works is a dynamite site that offers what they consider "alternatives
to traditional employment". It lists the aims and projects of over
1000 organizations, and provides you with all of the information you could
possibly want or need to find employment in jobs that make a difference.

Directory of Emergency Services

national directory for fire fighters and police.
Social
Service.com
If
you are looking for a job serving the public, it doesn't get much more
public than this. Social Services is a great place for social workers
and other social service professionals to start looking for a social work
or social service job, whether in mental health, substance abuse, children
and youth, medical social work, criminal justice, domestic violence, community
organizing and outreach, homelessness or a variety of other areas.
Project
Vote Smart
You've
seen the next two already, but they deserve one more plug. Project
vote-smart is a non-profit organization that researches local and state
candidates and other elected officials, providing non-biased information
to the public. Generous college scholarships are available.
The
International Rescue Committee
While
most of the jobs here an volutary, I thought that this one was too cool
to pass up. The IRC is a non-profit agency providing relief to refugees
around the world. I wasn't real clear as to whether or not they house
and feed their volunteers, but it's worth a look if you have a 'passion
for compassion'.
Project
America
Work
for an organization that is trying to make the world a better place to
live. PA places an emphasis on community service. Some positions
are paid, while others ask for a helping hand. If you are looking
here, you might need the $$$. But if community service is your "cup
of tea," take a look around.
Feminism
Now
quit calling me a chauvinist! From the University of Maryland comes
a database of women's studies employment and information. You might
even want to take a look around the rest of the site, if you still
plan to rule the world.
Peace
Corps
Now
how could we do a nonprofit set without these guys. Get all of the
information you need right here. Check out the database for current
positions, and apply online!
National
Banking Network
Bankers
need to eat too, right? This is a place where a recruiters have put
together a large collection of banking oriented job listings nationwide,
anywhere from finance gurus to bank tellers. From simple to complex,
skilled to new in the market, let them know what you want and they will
respond to you!

site created simply to help connect those who are dedicated to public service.
It is a very good site, both for permanent work or public service "projects".

Idealist
The
name says it all. Want to help make the world a better place to live?

soc.org.nonprofit
This
newsgroup gets a lot of acitivity. Not all of the information is
employment oriented, but if you take the time to go through it you will
find many employment opportunities. Don't overlook it.

across the country, including educational, research, human resources, and
law librarians. Who'da known?

Developed
by the University of Texas at Austin, this is the online version of JOE,
or job openings for economists. Hey, somebody's got to do it.

in Education professes to include every job in education if that
job has been posted on the Internet. Find your job as a teacher's
assistant, teacher, administrator, security,or other education related
position.
Impact
Online
This
is a free online service that attempts to match volunteers to community
projects that interest them. Some of the volunteering or employment
is done virtually from your home through the very computer you are sitting
at right now. So what are you waiting for?

very comprehensive site for anyone who is or wants to be a paralegal.
Find jobs around the nation and much more regarding this career.

Their

seemingly very comprehensive site for both prospective and current officers.
Get information on employment in corrections, criminal justice, K-9, bomb
squads, and more.
