So, you want to be a state officer?
Very few positions within the organization are more rewarding
than being a state officer. However, very few positions
require more time and hard work! Each year Virginia DECA
members elect the "best of the best"
to help form and carry out the year's program of work. If
you want to have the best year of your DECA career, and
you're ready to dig your heels in to support Virginia DECA, then
we want you!
You will find everything you need
to know about becoming a state office in Section
M of your advisor's Chapter
Management Guide. You'll learn how to run a successful
campaign, what the eligibility requirements are, and what you'll
need to know to successfully navigate the mandatory testing
required by all state officer candidates.
To become a state officer candidate:
- Complete the necessary paperwork
and submit it to the Virginia DECA support office by the dates
noted in the Chapter Management
Guide. To be considered, be sure to follow ALL
guidelines stated in the Guide!
- Download and STUDY the test
study guide. The test will be given online, and
you must earn a minimum of 70% correct to be
eligible for candidacy.
- Follow the campaign guidelines
as set forth in Section M of the Chapter
Management Guide.
- Get ready for a bang up campaign!
Speaking of the state
officers, feel free to ask them questions about their own experience.
You can contact them by visiting the State
Action Team page.
Good luck, and we look forward
to working with you. If you have any questions about anything
described in the guidelines, please check with your chapter
advisor or contact the Virginia DECA office.
