Radiological and Nuclear Threat Detection with Millimeter Wave Imaging Systems
Detection of suspect individuals with dangerous explosives who pose a threat to people in commonplace situations is a topic which is gaining a lot interest in the researching fraternity. Explosive detection systems and Low-power X-ray Imaging have failed to provide the required protection due to the compatibility and human health threat issues.
Millimeter Wave Imaging System · Millimeter waves can penetrate opaque things like fog, foliage and clothing materials but are partially reflected by materials other than the above. · The system is reliable in producing real-time images without any clutter and can sense only natural black-body radiation. · The objects of detection are not subjected to harmful radiation and can be searched without the system itself being detected. · A focused 3-d image of the scattered wave-front is produced due to the coherent illumination of an object · Design intelligent digital image processing architectures for accurate and efficient threat object extraction and graphical analysis The wide spectrum of millimeter wave signatures for different materials and the cost of the camera system are the only two challenges that need to be addressed in an efficient way. Focus is also on arming law enforcement officials with portable systems to aid on routine patrolling duties. |
