Future Aspirations: I aspire to become a tenured professor at a land grant institution in the southeastern United States. Without a terminal degree, it would be next to impossible to receive a tenure track position. For many years, there has been a differing of opinions about the professions of technology education and instructional technology. Having an undergraduate and graduate degree in technology education has allowed me to understand the history, philosophy, and pedagogy of the discipline. By obtaining a PhD in instructional technology and learning the pedagogy, I believe that I can help combine the two disciplines into a cohesive group whose focus and ideals are understood by both parties a common ground. With new national legislation, it has become increasingly important for both disciplines to engage each others strengths, and work together in developing new strategies to improve student learning and behaviors. My professional goal is to foster the relationship between the two disciplines and ultimately, better the students who utilize instructional technology and technology education. |
