Text Box: Lean Engineering Design Simulation
Text Box: Engineering Design Process is a complex activity in which products are designed and engineered or existing products are re-engineered to give optimum results.  This process may take any where from one week to several years to complete, and may involve a number of people, calculations, analysis and reviews. The simulation demonstrates how Lean tools can improve efficiency of design process in a learn by doing environment. Participants design a container ship during the simulation

Text Box: · Reduction in Lead Time / Cycle Time
· Reduction in number of reviews
· Reduction in transportation time
· Reduction in number of documents
· Improved communication
· Bottlenecks removed
· Better work environment

Text Box: Phase 1 is traditional design process with multiple reviews and no interdepartmental communication.
Time required to complete one order is highest in this phase
Text Box: Phase 2 implements lean tools like 5-S, line balancing and quality at source.
Time required to complete one order is lesser than that in phase 1
Text Box: Phase 3 implements lean tools like Integrated Product and Process Design (IPPD).
Time required to complete one order is drastically reduced than that in phase 1 and phase 2
Text Box:  You will Learn in this simulation:
· Engineering Design Process
· Iterative nature of this process.
· Participate in the simulation of the current state.
· How to implement Lean tools to     improve process efficiency.
· Performance metrics for Design process (cycle time, lead time, reviews etc)
· Integrated Product and Process Design (IPPD) and Concurrent
      Engineering (CI).
· Implement Lean in phases and view the  improvements.
