 Dr. Alok K. Verma is Ray Ferrari Professor in the Engineering Technology Department. He also serves as the Director for the Lean Institute in the college, MET- Program Director and Director of the Automated Manufacturing Laboratory at Old Dominion University. He received his B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1978 and MS in Engineering Mechanics from Old Dominion University in 1981 and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University. He joined the Mechanical Engineering Technology Department in 1981 which is now a program within the Department of Engineering Technology. 

 Prof. Verma is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Virginia, a certified manufacturing engineer and has certification in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma. His publications are in the areas of Lean Manufacturing, Process Automation and Optimization, Advanced Manufacturing Processes, CAD/CAM, Robotics and Supply Chain. His current research interests are in the area of process optimization and Lean implementation models for job shop and designed to build environments. Alok Verma has co-edited the proceedings of the International Conference on Agile Manufacturing, ICAM 2008 and International Conference on CAD/CAM & Robotics for which he was the general chairman.

He is serving as the associate editor for three international journals, the International Journal of Agile Manufacturing, The International Journal for Advanced Manufacturing Systems and The Journal of Modern Engineering. Dr. Verma has developed and delivered training programs in Lean Enterprise & Design for Manufacturing for Northrop Grumman Newport News, STIHL and several other companies in U.S. He has developed simulation based training programs for shipbuilding and repair industry under a grant from the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP). He has delivered keynote address at several international conferences on Lean manufacturing and offered Lean training for companies in Hampton Roads area. He is active in ASME, ASEE, SNAME and SME.
