The ODU Student Chapter of the Human Factors and
Ergonomics Society, with student president Ellen
Carpenter (HF Ph.D. Program) and faculty advisor James Bliss, won the 2003 National Ergonomics Month action plan
and 2004 Outstanding Student Chapter Award and the Best NEM Implementation Plan.
The ODU HFES student chapter also received an award for thier safety slogan submission entitled "You Can't Rewind a Workplace Accident" at ODU's Safety Committee Slogan Contest sponsered by the ODU Workplace Safety and Health Program. The entry highlighted the importance of safety and the role that human factors and ergonomics plays in ensuring workplace safety.
Julie Stark (HF Ph.D. Program) won the 2003
Alphonse Chapanis Award for best
student paper at the Human Factors
and Ergonomics Society conference.
Ernesto Bustamante (HF Ph.D. Program)
won the 2004 Best Student Paper
Award in the Perception and
Performance Technical Group at the
48th annual meeting of the Human
Factors and Ergonomics Society.
