General

Ignore what is said in the Wrapup part of the experiments regarding which are formal or informal, and which ones to submit.  Go by the syllabus instead.

Lab1

In steps 12 and 15, the wrong value of current is used.  Instead 2.4 amperes, it should have been 2.4 amperes plus the measured shunt field current recorded in step 7.  However, this error will not adversely affect the experiment results, and the calculated resistance values will be reasonably close.

In the wrapup at the end of the experiment, it is stated that the temperature coefficient of copper is 0.0039%/degree C.  This is incorrect.  It should be 0.00393/degree C, which, when expressed as a percentage, is 0.393%/degree C.

Lab3

In lab 3, Presentation of Results part 2, you are asked to calculate xe1.  When you do this you will find that ze1 is smaller than re1.  This is impossible - the impedance must always be greater then or equal to the resistance.  The reason for the error is in the meter resolution and accuracy and the fact that xe1 is nearly zero.  Just assume xe1=0.

Lab4

No errata.

Lab 5

In lab 5 part 10, we reduced the rheostat and were supposed to observe and record the sign and value of the wattmeter.  However, the camera never zooms in to the meter to take a reading.  For your discussion questions, the value is not important, but the negative sign is needed.  In part 10, just record the word "negative".

Lab 6

No errata.

Lab 7

Lab 7 part 8 (locked rotor test) is omitted from the experiment on the CD.  The measured values were
TMeasured=0.25 ft-lb
VMeasured=30.8 V
 IMeasured=6.60 A.

Lab 8

When making the measurements that are entered in Table 8-2, the 7th measurement (250+375+375) is skipped.  When you graph the data just draw a smooth line through the area of the missing data (i.e., interpolate the point).

Lab 9

The URL given where you can download the TRiLOGI software has been discontinued. It has been moved to

http://www.tri-plc.com/trilogi.htm

You have a choice of which version of TRiLOGI to use. On this web page, they have the DOS version (which is the one demonstrated in the lab video) or the new Java version. The Java version runs using the same keystrokes as the DOS version, but it is somewhat "jazzier" and runs in a normal Window. For the assignment, you may use either one, and both are free. Since you are writing only one program, you may find the DOS version easier to install and somewhat quicker to learn.

DOS Version - simply download it and install it. In runs in a DOS window.

Java version - fill out the blanks on the web page and they will email to you a download URL and a password. You must also download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) prior to installing TRiLOGI. Instructions are on the TRiLOGI download page.
