Grading:
The instructor will carefully monitor laboratory performance and use it as a basis for grading. This does not mean that you are expected to be a "superstar" in understanding the experiments, nor does it mean that you can't ask the instructor appropriate questions when you've reached a "dead-end". However, engineering technology students are expected to develop a reasonable affinity toward a hands-on problem solving approach, and a portion of your ultimate value to industry could depend on the work habits you develop in this and other EET laboratory courses. This includes tackling a technical assignment with enthusiasm and interest, being a "self-starter" (i.e., usually not needing someone to continuously supervise your work and tell you what to do next), completing assignments on-time, and presenting the results in a neat, well organized, and easy-to-understand format. This also means that when you encounter a problem, you should spend some time researching a solution before asking for help.
This in no way means that the instructor will automatically deduct points each time you ask for help. In a few sentences of conversation or email, it is easy to tell if a student has either made an effort to solve a problem before calling, or has simply decided to take the "short cut" and ask the instructor first.
ODU Honor Code
Students are expected to read and understand the ODU honor code. Although you may freely discuss the laboratory experiments and concepts, you are to work alone in taking laboratory data and writing the laboratory reports. Violations will result in at least a zero grade on the paper with possible additional punishment by the ODU Honor Council. Submitted papers will be screened for cheating.
