How can two daughter cells that have the same number of chromosomes and identical genes as the mother cell form from a single mother cell? The DNA (chromosomes) duplicate during late interphase right before
chromosome formation and segregation.
k The figure above represent the single mother cell. Note the genetic
makeup (AaBb). The figure to the right is the mother cell after the S stage
of mitosis. Note the genetic makeup (AAaaBBbb). Examine the figure below
after mitosis forming two daughter cells. Note the genetic makeup
of each daughter cell is (AaBb).
k Draw these in your notes.
