logging in

Follow the instructions printed on the account sheet you recieved from the Customer Service Desk. Change your password AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. When logging into a UNIX workstation (a.k.a. LIONS client), type in your default password EXACTLY as it appears on your account. Once logged in, type "kpasswd" (no quotes) to change your password. The standard UNIX "passwd" command doesn't change your password properly.

Sol-login.lions.odu.edu is used for batch job submission to the HPC computing systems, using SAS, and as a login host for PC users using X-win32 that need access to a UNIX system for special tasks.

If you're a student that primarily uses UNIX workstations located in UNIX labs for academic work, please refrain from using sol-login.lions.odu.edu even when logging in remotely. UNIX workstations located in labs which are part of LIONS are configured to maximize the power of the workstation, and should be sufficient for most academic computing needs.
