Seventeenth Annual Physics Olympics

What is a Physics Olympics?  
The Physics Olympics is a series of six activities, each of 20 minutes
duration.  No prior preparation or construction is required.   The
activities are designed to be fun, active, include some knowledge of
science, and require group participation.     
Sampling of Past Activities: Paper Airplane Toss,  Slow Bicycle Race, 
Constant Velocity Race,  Koosh Ball Catapult, Penny Barge, Laser Target
Shoot, Build-a-Magnet,
Walk the Plank,  Pennies from Heaven, Mirror Maze. 

Place:  Ocean Lakes High School, 885 Schumann Drive, Virginia Beach
Time:  Saturday March 19, 2005    9 am to 12 noon
Check-in (Confirm attendance,  receive score sheet, record team names)
will be from 8:30 to 9 am in the Main Foyer.

Registration is $5/team if prepaid and postmarked by March 9.  (After
March 9 and on-site, the fee will be $10 per team, and participation
will not be guaranteed!)

You will not need to bring any materials other than a pencil or pen,
and a calculator.  The events are fun as well as challenging.  Most
events do not require mathematical calculation. 

Please Pre-register!!!  We can only guarantee space to those that
pre-register!!!  There will be only a limited number of slots available
to those who register on-site.   

Teams:  Each school may sponsor one or more teams.  A team may be
members of a science club, physics or physical science class, or any
students interested in having fun with physics.

Each team consists of four or five students.  Teams will compete in
either the middle school or high school division.  Each team should pick
a name for themselves before arrival and enter that name on the
registration sheet upon arrival.
 
Registration Fee:  	$10/team if paid on-site, or after March 9.
		$5/team if payment is received or postmarked by March 9.

On-site registration is possible, but  space is only guaranteed to
those who pre-register.

Prizes:  Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams in each division. 
Refreshments will be served at the awards ceremony at noon.
