GENERAL WRITTEN COMMENTS:

WHAT FACTORS ABOUT THIS CLASS CONTRIBUTED THE MOST TO YOUR LEARNING? WHAT ASPECTS OF THIS CLASS HELPED YOU TO LEARN THINK CRITICALLY?

very difficult class. there is a lot of material and i felt that there was not an overall understanding in the class and the professor still proceeded to move on. tests were extremely difficult even though i prepared for days and did all my readings. homework was outrageous! points taken off for ANYTHING! he says everyone can get an A, but an A is impossible no matter how hard you work for it :(
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Demonstrations performed helped see other ways things could be done, also wonder why things happened this way or that. It helped explain things further
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The fact that the class was three days a week helped keep the information fresh in my mind. It made you think critically because you started to question the things around you and how they worked, stuff you take for granted.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I liked having the notes in front of me so that I could focus on what was being said, rather than taking notes. The lab probably helped the most with critical thinking because we had to understand what was going on and explain it in a lab write-up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The labs and the visual presentations made it easier to understand the material than simply being told about it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of the homework problems and clicker questions made me think critically.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The notes were already given, therefore, I could focus on the lecture.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
homeworks
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The fact that Dr. Weinstein is so enthustiatic about his job helps significantly. Also, he asks questions in class that make you think about what you just covered and they count for a small part of your grade.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
There were no "black and white" questions in the assignments. I had to really thing outside of the box.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
he did a lot of informative demonstrations
-------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT DID YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE CLASS AND YOUR INSTRUCTOR?

demos
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I loved the in class demonstrations, and Dr. Weinstein really loves Physics and it shows. I think Dr. Weinstein was a great professor, and tried different ways of teaching so that all students were able to grasp the concepts of physics without a lot of difficulty. For example: homework, in class demos, hands on lab, and in class participation all different ways that a student could understand depending on their learning abilities.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
very informative instructor. delightful demonstrations
-------------------------------------------------------------------
He was very knowledgeable when he taught his lectures
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Weinstein was available in the physics learning center to answer any questions.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I liked how upbeat the professor was and how you could tell he wanted to be there to teach us.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The amount of class involvement-it makes you want to be there, and the demos!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The instructor uses a lot of demos to explain physics. He is very enthusiastic about this subject.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
the presentations and visual aids materials
-------------------------------------------------------------------
His little experiments in class kept it interesting.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Class-informative Instructor-passionate about physics
-------------------------------------------------------------------
he was funny and not boring, kept us interested
-------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT CHANGES IF ANY, COULD BE MADE TO THE CLASS THAT WOULD HAVE HELPED YOU TO LEARN MORE? WHAT COULD THE INSTRUCTOR HAVE DONE TO MAKE THE COURSE AN EVEN BETTER LEARNING EXPERIENCE?

slow down a little and make sure everyone understands. don't assign so much hw!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Weinstein could help the class better understand the material if he slowed down and taught the material more throughly. He is very hard to follow, and teaches alot of material for a 100 level course.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
It would have been good if the TA that did the homework grading was able to get it back in time for tests. Not knowing what you did wrong on the homework made it hard to study for tests. Because even with the answers posted, you could still make the same mistakes because you don't know what you answered on the homework in order to correct your thinking.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Smaller class size. It was very difficult to learn anything in a large class. I would also go over homework in class before turning it in.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
a more timely turnaround in returning the homework assignments. some material on the tests could have been covered better if we knew what we were missing on the homework. sometimes homework assigned wasn't returned for up to three weeks.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The tests were extremely TOO difficult for a 100 level course. There was too much information that needed to be corvered in a short amount of time. I found myself running out of time when i would take his tests, which wasnt very helpful. There should be less material on the test. It is not neccessary to have multiple choice questions and then expect the students to explain why they chose a particular answer. In a 50 minute class, there is not enough time to explain why and work out all the math problems. Also, majority of the class is education majors and there is no need for the class to go into such detail about certain topics!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Weinstein did very little to re-explain things to students who did not understand. There could have been more hands-on demonstrations than just in the lab. The practical application would have helped.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This class was great, but also a bit hard. It would have been better if he could have gone a bit slower on the material.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Homework is really hard, everyone does badly on it. For example, eventhough I got A's on all the tests, I had a D average on the HW.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
it's just fine
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing! He is an excellent professor!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If there were more real-life situations that concepts could have been applied. Some of the material was a little tough and hard to understand. If there was some way to implement more real-life concepts, the material may be somewhat easier to understand.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
the clicker questions - if you are there and get them wrong i think it should be as many points as if you are there and get them correct. just because i did not know the answers ALL the time should not mean I have an 80% grade for clicker questions
-------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT FACTORS ABOUT YOUR OWN PERFORMANCE HELPED YOU LEARN THE MOST? WHAT DID YOU DO TO FACILITATE YOUR LEARNING?

talked with the professor and asked ?s
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The best learning for me was to keep up with all the assignments, and turn them in on time.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a hard time in this class. There was no one particular why that i studied that helped me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I did the homework and took notes on the chapters so when test time came around, I just had to go over my notes and condense them into a crib sheet.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
My ability to listen and comprehend the text helped me learn in this class.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I payed great attention in class and reviewed from the book.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
homeworks
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Meeting other students and struggling with assignments.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
the teacher was a visual teach and i am a visual learner
-------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT COULD YOU HAVE DONE TO MAKE THE COURSE AN EVEN BETTER LEARNING EXPERIENCE?

i'm not sure i could have made this course better to learn- i found phys 101 extremely difficult for a 100 level course. i am disappointed that i did not benefit greatly from taking this class.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I dropped other courses in order to prepare more for this course and study more, not sure what else more I could do besides get extra help from the professor.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I could have spent more time reading the book in advance, instead of waiting until I did the homework.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I could have put more time into going to tutoring or getting help.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably came by for more help.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Dont know
-------------------------------------------------------------------
more reading and attending class and registering from the begining
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Incorporate more real-life concepts that are easy for non-science majors to understand.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
nothing
