Physics 232 Evaluations Spring 1998

Prof L. Weinstein

These comments were written by students and transcribed by the Physics Department. These are all of the comments received for this course. They are complete and uneditted.

  1. Dr. Weinstein is an excellent professor. His lectures are interesting most of the time. I hate going to a physics lecture, but I loved Dr. Weinstein's class. His daily quizzes and different methods of presenting materials kept me awake in class. Very good class, but very hard!
  2. The class quizzes seem to be very helpful in getting the point across. However the course is very fast paced and not much time is spent on going into the subject matter in detail.
  3. The instructors performance was quite satisfactory for the class. He was able to effectively explain ideas and concepts through his lectures and demonstrations.
  4. Keep up the experiments, they kept it interesting.
  5. Physics 232 was a good class, but I wish the instructor solve more problems at the class from the book. For example, some odd questions. It really help when we solve homework. In physics the hard part is to understand the question.
  6. Dr. Weinstein is a very competent instructor, though he moves very quickly and is sometimes hard to keep up with. He responds well to all of the students and answers any question he is approached with. He is always in good humor and does his best in taking a very difficult course and condensing it to the point of understanding.
  7. There was not a single day that I did not regret taking this class from Dr. Weinstein. He is boring very unfair and totally unimpressive. I had a very strong background in physics and still managed to fail all is tests. It was not for lack of trying but rather I seriously was confused by his lectures and had a hard time understanding his questions. When asked questions he answers them by asking you a question, what a waste of time. He should lighten up and start teaching.
  8. Dr. Weinstein is an outstanding physics instructor whose complete and thorough knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject makes it that much more fascinating for the student. In addition, Dr. Weinstein's willingness to discuss any physics related topic at any time in great depth with genuine enthusiasm is incredible and heightens greatly the students interest in this subject. I have thoroughly enjoyed this class.
  9. Main problem is expressing reasons for things, but w/the lab it turns out good. Strong point is enthusiasm for what's going on and ability to communicate that.
  10. Committed works hard to explain things to us. I love the Quizzes. The quizzes are what keep me more interested in class. Only problem, class may get boring.

My comments on the comments: The discrepancy between comments 7 and 8 is intriguing.
