RECIPIENTS
Each year Virginia DECA, DECA,
Inc., the Virginia DECA Foundation, and other vested organizations
attempt to give away thousands of dollars in scholarships.
Many of you would
like to apply but don't know how. Please look at the list
of scholarships that will be awarded this year through the Virginia
DECA Foundation:
1) The Louise Bernard Scholarship,
given in honor of our first state supervisor of Marketing Education.
Sponsored by Barber Martin. $1000

Recipient - Chris Long, Dominion High School
2) The Louis Spilman Scholarship,
given in honor of the Waynesboro newspaper editor, as well as
the person who spearheaded the first adult marketing training
in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sponsored by the Southeastern
Institute for Research. $1000

Recipient - Morgan Bathurst, Bruton High School
3) The Lucy Crawford Scholarship
is given in honor of someone who is recognized as a leader
and who has been a major figure in Marketing Education on both
the state and national levels. Sponsored by Sun Trust. $1000

Recipient - Kamil Battle, Churchland High School
4) The James Horan Jr. Scholarship
is in honor of one of the true pioneers in Virginia DECA. Sponsored
by the Jeane Dixon Children to Children Foundation, a friend
to Marketing Education in the Commonwealth. $1000

Recipient - Elizabeth Dickey, Clarke County High School
5) The Elwood Roche Memorial
Scholarship is given in honor of an individual who served
in the capacity of assistant state supervisor where he provided
training and leadership for Virginia DECA State Officers and
was also instrumental in the adult education phase of Marketing
Education. The Elwood Roche Memorial Scholarship is sponsored
by the Virginia Association of Marketing Educators (VAME). $1000

Recipient - Kathryn Farwell, Potomac Falls High School
6)The I. W. Baughman
is given in honor of a man who made great strides in curriculum
development, as well as refining and clarifying standards and
procedures in Marketing Education. This scholarship is sponsored
by the Virginia Association of Retired Marketing Teachers (VARME).

7) The Hardee's
scholarship is given in honor of one of our finest corporate
sponsors, Hardee's, who has been a long time friend and partner
of Virginia DECA. Hardee's proudly supports our future marketing

Memorial Scholarship is given in honor of the women
who not only served in many facets of Marketing Education, but
was also one of the founding directors of the Virginia DECA
Foundation, that organization that funds your scholarships.

10) In addition, the Virginia
DECA Foundation will offer an additional $1000 scholarship
to an active member of Virginia DECA.

will automatically make you eligible for consideration for all
of these scholarships. Remember, you can't win if you
don't apply!

The Virginia DECA scholarship application is due in the
Virginia DECA office no later than the deadline specified in
the Chapter Management
Guide.
Applications per chapter are limited. He or she may have to
make a choice as to whether or not to submit yours, so do a
good job with it before submitting it to your advisor.
If you really want
to maximize your chances of becoming a finalist and earning
that interview at SLC, be sure to read below. The selection
committee has compiled a list of the most common errors made

National
Association of Mortgage Brokers
For the second year,
the Virginia Association of the NAMB will provide a $1000 scholarship
to a deserving student. Below is the application, and note that
it must arrive in the Virginia DECA office by
a date yet to be determined. Good luck!

Scholarship Application
Inve$tco has donated $1000
for student scholarships for the 2007-2008 school year. Eligible
students must:
- Be an affiliated
member with Virginia DECA and DECA Inc., and
- Attend school
in one of the following counties: Bedford, Botetourt. Carroll,
Floyd, Franklin, Grayson, Montgomery, Pulaski, Roanoke, Smyth,
Wythe.
If you meet this
criteria, be sure to apply! The selection process will be identified
in the near future. The application
deadline is
yet to be determined.

Scholarship Application
Knowlegde Matters, or more
commonly known to Marketing Education by their software Virtual
Business, will be offering several scholarships to marketing
students showing interest and accomplishment in the use of technologies
in marketing. To apply, visit http://www.knowledgematters.com/Scholarships/
and use state code 2774602. You must be a Virginian
to use this code or your application will not be processed.
Those of you from other states should contact your state
advisor for your state's code.
The Virginia
Association for Career and Technical Education (VACTE)
offered scholarship funding the last several years. More
information will be posted soon regarding the offerings.
Other scholarships around the
country:
DECA, Inc. provided over
$250,000 in scholarship money last year. Virginia had
thirteen (13) national scholarship winners! For more information,
download a copy of the Harry
Applegate Scholarship Application located both here and
in the national DECA Guide. One application makes
you eligible to be considered for each of the national DECA
scholarships that you qualify for. Harry Applegate
applications are due in the Virginia DECA office no later than
February 29, 2007. For more information, ask your advisor

Guardian-Girls
Going Places Scholarship Program. A national competition
that recognizes and rewards entrepreneurial and community-minded
girls ages 12 to 18.
