News:

13 Dec: The final will focus on chapters 10--12, but will cover the entire course. In addition to the standard crib sheet, I will provide the Lienard-Weichert potentials and fields, equations 10.39, 10.40, 10.65, and 10.66.

6 Dec: Review session Tuesday, 12/12 at 1:00 in the Nuclear Physics Bldg.

6 Dec: Here are the extra suggested problems in chapter 12: 22, 25, 26, 32 and 35. Let me know if you would like solutions to them. There will probably be questions like these on the exam.

29 Nov: The last homework set is due next Wednesday (12/6). I modified it today to replace problem 15 with problem 16. There will be a final homework set assigned next week that I will not collect (but will cover material that will also be on the final).

27 Nov: I will accept this homework set until Wednesday.

20 Nov: Three more problems are added to this week's homework. Please read section 11.1.4 yourselves. We will not cover it in class. You will not be responsible for chapter 11.2.

15 Nov: Homework is posted.

8 Nov: Homework is posted.

25 Oct: Test 2 will cover line, surface and volume integrals, Gauss's law, and chapter 9 sections 1 through 4 inclusive. It will cover the material in problem sets 5 through 9. Oh yeah, make sure you know the basic equations of electrodynamics. I will provide the same vector calculus crib sheet as last time.

24 Oct: Homework is posted. And yes, it is seven problems. But many of them are just plug-in.

16 Oct: Homework is posted. And yes, it is only three problems.

11 Oct: I might call on you to Monday, Oct 16, to present part of a problem from the first test on the blackboard.

11 Oct: The next homework is due 18 Oct. And yes, the problems are from chapters 1 and 2.

29 Sept: The exam will not include magnetic monopoles.

22 Sept: There will be no homework due the week of October 2.

20 Sept: Exam 1 will be October 2. It will cover chapters 7 and 8. I will give you a crib sheet with formulas from the inside front cover of Griffiths (vector stuff) and the inside back cover (fundamental constants and coordinate systems only). I expect you to memorize the 'Basic Equations of Electrodynamics'. This exam will NOT include problems with magnetization M or polarization P.

20 Sept: Class will start at 2:55, not at 3:00 PM.

20 Sept: Prob set 4 is posted.

13 Sept: Prob set 3 is posted. To solve problem 8.3, you will need Example 5.11 (p 236) and the answer to problem 5.36 from last semester.

13 Sept: Office hours: Monday 11-12 and Wednesday 9-11 in the Nuclear Physics building.

9 Aug: The syllabus is here

7 Aug: The course textbook will be Griffiths' Electrodynamics. We will cover chapters 7-12.
