Chromosomes: Parts
of a Chromosome
Examine the figures shown in the readings indicated by G-1 concerning centromeres and chromatids. In the figure below identify the structures: centromere, chromatids, and sister chromatids. These are the structures that make up a chromosome. Review the difference between chromosome and chromatin. The figure below represents one homologous pair because the genes "T and t" are located at the same site (loci) of both chromosomes. Also note that the chromosomes in this figure do not consist of two sister chromatids but as single unreplicated chromosome strands. This arrangement will be explained later in the miniunit. Draw and label this figure in your notes. Examine the single chromosome pair above and identify the following:
