LESSON
6

A few lesson plan ideas...
While these may not be full lesson plans
in format (that is intentional), take a look at these activities and ideas
and see how you can use them with your class.
-
First Things First! - Have your students
develop a purpose and a storyboard for their Web site before they ever
get started. Without a vision, just like a non-virtual business,
there is little chance for success. Below is a list of purposes for
a website project done by one of my former high school classes. The
organization was a local sailing club. Take a look and use them as
a guideline for your next project.
Purposes for Broad Bay Sailing Association
Web site
-
Provide information to members
-
Provide information to community
-
Encourage physical visits
-
Provide a feedback forum
-
Build and enhance image
-
Generate a contact/mailing list
-
Encourage return visits to website
-
Entertain on-line visitors
-
Thinking through your design - Think
of all of the things you want on your Web site. For example, the
Virginia DECA Web site has a calendar, forms for teachers, a link to National
DECA, games, scholarship information, competitive events, state charity,
jobs information, current news, lesson plans, contact informtion, a message
board, and much more. Put your page names in a table, with each cell
of the table housing a separate page. Then copy the sheets and cut
them into squares/cells so that the names are no longer connected in any
way (each "square" will have one page name on it). Pass your students
the squares with all of the page names on them and ask them to categorize
them into 5 or 6 categories so that a visitor would be able to logically
follow them. It's not as easy as it sounds. Try it!
