WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

As you already know, the Workshop phase of OTS 596 will help you with the "how-to's" of Web page construction (refer to the schedule button above for the exact time and location of the workshop).  It consists of a two-day mandatory on-campus workshop.  Upon completion of the workshop, you will be able to build and upload your own successful Web site.

Much will be covered over the course of the workshop, and you may not remember every detail that is discussed.  Use this quick guide as a reference while you are learning to build your Web site.  During the Workshop, concentrate on how to make things work.  The third part of the course (lessons 6 - 10) will focus on Web design, story boards, planning, and navigation of your site.  Together the workshops and lessons 6 - 10 will help you to understand not only how to build pages, but how to create a site that meets your objectives.  Utilizing an effective marketing strategy is essential to creating an effective Web site!

Visit each of the links below as you see fit.  Refer back to them as often as you need to.  Then once you are done, visit the Test your Knowledge link at the bottom of any page.  It is a quick quiz for the workshops.  Good luck!

**links will be inserted prior to workshop

Netscape Composer - For Marketing 8125 teachers, I highly recommend this software.  While there may be other (and better) Web authoring programs, see why this software deserves strong consideration for your classroom setting.

Creating hyperlinks - This is Web construction 101.  You must be able to create links!  Learn the difference between internal and external links, and how to create them in Netscape Composer.

Insert images - "A picture is worth a thousand words."  Images will enhance your Web site.  Know how to insert and control them.

Titles, backgrounds, and link colors - Take control of your entire Web site with these features.

Using Tables - There are four different tables on the page you are looking at right now.  Can you see them?  Maybe not.  Tables are used extensively in Web page construction to help align and organize data.  Learn to insert them into your pages.

Naming your files - This can get tricky.  Make sure that you've thoroughly read this section!

Uploading your pages to the World Wide Web - Ok, now you're done building your site.  Here's how to put it on the Web.

Test your knowledge - Take this brief quiz and submit it to the instructor.

Still don't understand a particular  aspect of the software, or have a question about something that we didn't cover?  Don't hesitate to ask!
