You can literally get lost in
a sea of information out there! On last count, I had 462 bookmarks
on my computer, and I clean them out regularly. That's in addition
to all of the searches I do. I'll limit these pages to the absolute
most necessary and most useful resources. If you want some more,
or some on a specific topic, just drop me a message and ask. See
if some of these Web locations can help you, and do I need to ask again?
Please contribute if you have an extremely worthwhile site! Try a
few of these:
INTERNET SPECIFIC LINKS
The
Interactive Advertising Bureau - A very good source for lead articles
and other information on online advertising.
The
History of the Internet - This is easy data to find, but I personally
have found this outline to be incredibly informative AND current.
Then look at the bottom of this sheet for statistics that are updated change
quarterly.
Live
Person makes for an interesting study in customer service on the Web.
This is a service similar to what we talked about earlier that Land's End
uses so well. Post a live customer service rep on your site!
This also makes for a great discussion starter. If your computers
have Flash, try viewing the Flash promo for Human
Click.
Netiquette
(online etiquette) - An excellent lesson that does a good job of covering
most of the content. I usually let a few of my quicker students do
this lesson early in the year. It's complete with an online quiz
(or you can print it out and use it).
HTML
Tutorial - If you or your students want to spend some time with this,
there are scads of similar sites. However, this one is awesome!
Each lesson ends with an interactive quiz. You take the lesson, then
try what you just learned and actually SEE your results, mistakes and all.
If you are interested in learning code, this is the best place to start.
Shopping "Bots" - Check out a few comparative
shopping bots. Some of the better ones are Bottom
Dollar and My Simon.
And if you want facts and statistics about
the Internet to help you with your research, while there are TONS of related
sites, here are the ones I depend on the most heavily:
Forrester
Research - If you want facts and statistics on e-commerce, this is
the place to go. You can literally get "lost" here, but spend some
time with it.
Jupiter
Research - You'll have to register for this one, but it's worth it!
Wilson
Internet - Web Marketing and E-Commerce - While you're here, sign up
for the free newsletter. It's a good one.
WebPromote.com
- The Intelligent Internet Marketing Resource
The
Industry Standard
Search
Engine Watch - FILLED with statistics about search engines and what
people search for.
Internet.com
- You will find this site to be an invaluable source of links to related
sites. Bookmark this site, and it will provide you a good starting
point for research on just about anything that is Internet related.

A FEW GOOD AND UNIQUE MARKETING ED LINKS
Great
Ideas for Teaching Marketing - If you only visit one site on this page,
THIS IS IT! Although it was developed for college professors, this
is a collection of hundreds of lessons and activities you can use in your
classroom. You may have to water a few of them down a bit, but you're
going to love this site! The only bad thing about this site is that
there are so many lessons, it would take a long time to go through them
all.
The
Marketing Teacher - Recently introduced in the MEA newsletter, this
site has a lot of potential. If the Marketing teachers ever decided
to start interacting with each other through this page, it'll be a gem.
CTE
Resource Center - You've heard of this one before, and probably even
used it in one way or another, but this is an incredibly untapped
resource! Do you know that you can borrow videos, books,
LAPS, and other resources from them? Did you know that they will
actually do research for you??? (and might I add very effective
research!) Take advantage of them. If you think they might
be able to help you, they probably can. Just ask.
Mark-Ed
- You know who they are.
VDOE
Marketing Education - And I think you know who they are, too.
Virginia
DECA - Possibly the finest Web site ever assembled in the history of....
Ok, maybe not. But it should provide you with information regarding
Marketing Education and its student association.
Marketing
Education Association - There's a lot of good stuff here. Just
make sure that you put your sunglasses on before visiting. And if
you're pregnant or have a history of heart disease, you might want to play
it safe...
